Mass-production of bluefin tuna fry

At the request of the local community, the Amami Station, Aquaculture Research Institute started with bluefin tuna juveniles shipped from the Oshima Station, Aquaculture Research Institute in Wakayama for faming experiments.

The Amami Aquaculture and Science Center Was also established to raise red sea bream, kelp grouper, parrotfish and other species to pre-marketable size. They are doing research for fry production on land.

Acsess By air from Kagoshima (approx. 50 mins), Osaka Itami (approx. 1 hour 30 mins), or Tokyo (approx. 2 hours 15 mins).

By ferry headed to Okinawa (stopping at the port of Naze City on Amami Oshima) from Kagoshima, Osaka, or Tokyo

Please hire a car upon arriving as there are no train lines on the island. Naze City may be reached by bus. The laboratory is approx. 2 hours away by car from Amami Oshima Airport, or approx. 1 hour 10 minutes away by car from Naze City.
